Ford's Super Duty trucks have been a goto choice when a one ton is absolutely required to get the job done, and the 2005 F350 truck is no exception to that rule. Ford pretty much rules the roost in domestic pickup sales for the United States, and rugged and reliable rides like the 05 F350 are a good reason why.
The F350 comes in 3 body styles and 3 trim levels, with the usual array of options for beds, axles, drive trains, engines, and other configuration options. The basic Regular cab is your standard two door truck, the extended Super Cab offers two small rearward opening doors for accessing the back seats, while the Crew Cab has four full size doors to allow the maximum of comfort in getting in and out from the back row. An 8 foot long bed is available across all body style and trim levels, while the 6.75 short bed can be had on Super Cab and Crew Cab models only.
The three trim levels available are XL, XLT, and the plush Lariat edition. The XL is a barebones utility truck, which features vinyl upholstery, a simple AM/FM radio, manually operated windows, locks and mirrors, and cupholders. Stepping up to the XLT gets you air conditioning, a CD player, chrome wheels, cruise control, powered windows, locks, and mirrors, and cloth upholstery. Springing for the Lariat edition gets you such luxuries as leather upholstery, audio controls on the steering wheel, and bucket front seats, manually adjustable.
3 muscular engines, two burning gas and one consuming diesel, are the heart of the 2005 F350 model's strong performance. The standard base engine is a 5.4 liter V8 which burns gasoline and generates an even 300 horsepower and 365 foot pounds of torque. The prize for pure horsepower goes to the optional 6.8 V10, that makes 367 horses and 400 some odd foot pounds of torque. The best choice for those planning to do serious towing and hauling with the F350 2005 model is the 6 liter Powerstroke turbodiesel, which churns out 325 horsepower and 547 foot pounds of torque. A six speed manual transmission is mated standard to all of these engines, but a five speed automatic tranny with towing mode is available, and both 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive is available on all body styles and trim levels.
The Ford F-series of trucks stand apart from the competition in their class for unusually quiet cabs, even in a powehouse like F350 05 model, and rides that are remarkably car like for a truck of this magnitude. This is one heavy duty truck that will right at home on the job site yet comfortable for the entire family to tool around in when needed.
